Another
really noticeable step change in performance in today’s game, highlighted in 2
of the 4 x 10 minute periods where the lads held a really well drilled - and
much bigger/stronger - Tarvin team to a single goal against. The pattern of
results was 1-0; 2-0; 1-0; 3-0 (7-0 overall).
What
stood out this week for the coaches was the tackling from all players, which
was much better with loads of bravery shown and no pulling out of tackles
against much bigger players. We rotated 4 different keepers the week and in the
3rd period Rafa made the save of the game diving one way and keeping
the ball out with his feet as it span the other.
Man
of the match Ellis (who also won the dirtiest shirt contest) could not have
left any more on the pitch by the end of the 4th period – which saw
him and the rest of the team step up the level of effort (just as the coaches
asked so some great listening) and lead to the Bee’s best 5 minute period of
sustained pressure in all of their matches to date. Only some great goalkeeping
and an annoying post kept the Bee’s from getting on the score sheet.
Loads
of positives to take from this game and the lads should be very proud of the
great progress they are making together. One area to work hard on in the coming
weeks is the effort to rapidly turn attack into defence – as most of the Tarvin
goals came from breaks which went unchallenged.
