BEES MATCH REPORT - SAT 25 MARCH

BEES 3 - 4 SAUGHALL BLUES

A very narrow defeat against a team who put 12 goals past us early in the season again highlighted progress but we were left to rue the result as we conceded a couple of goals which were preventable.

With 6 regular Bees starting and Zac and Harry from Wasps waiting on the bench we started really brightly. Samuel opened the scoring with a great right foot finish to the bottom corner before we gave the ball away carrying from defence for Saughall to cross and score to make it 1-1.

In the second and third quarters the game was end to end and after Saughall had scored again from another "ball carrying, head down, in the danger zone incident" we got back level through a Yazan deflected shot from distance which deceived their goalie.

Saughall always looked a threat on the break and physically they are a strong bunch which made it hard for some of our boys. However, as Zac in particular came into the match from a more central role Samuel put us 3-2 up with a left foot finish.

A draw would have been a fair result but we conceded two goals and our amazing run of results comes to end just in time for the Easter break.

Saughall cut down the space quickly and pressurised the boys which made it hard for our skilful runners. Lessons are two-fold:

    1. the ball is the fastest thing on the pitch if we can learn to relax and pass a little more

    2. we need to match teams physically and in work rate

Overall though the boys can be proud about coming so close against a team who are definitely one of the stronger teams. For this reason MOTM awards went to everyone!
