MATCH REPORT - SAT 6 JANUARY

BEES 9 - 3 UPTON

This was the perfect start to the New Year as the boys put in a terrific performance on the 5-side cages at Goals to revenge our poor performance and loss to Upton's weaker team (!!) in November.

We also thank Upton for bringing their team at short notice as Hope Farm cancelled.

The boys from both sides quickly got used to the non-stop format and walls of the 5-side cages and the game developed into a really fun match. After going 3-1 down the boys suddenly worked out we could pass back to the keeper when under pressure, use the walls to '1-2' our opponents and to shoot from distance at the wider goals.

George's energy dragged us back into the game and we scored 8 goals without reply from George (3), Ben (1), Henry (1), Thomas (1), Pablo (2) and Yazan (1).

The rolling subs and fluid positions worked great on a cold morning, and the format seemed to suit our quick skilful players better than the bigger lads from Upton who relied more on power than passing.

MOTM deservedly went to George for a blockbuster performance. Special mention also to Samuel who naturally defended throughout the game and understood (without being asked) the importance of marking runners and not getting drawn by the ball.

Brilliant performance and great fun for all.
