MATCH REPORT - SAT 26 NOVEMBER - MATCH 2

SAUGHALL 5 - 3 WAVERTON BEES

A traumatic build up with George and Yazan injured, and Samuel sick meant the squad was down to the bones. Luckily George from the Wasps was able to help us out.

The boys arrived to a big frosty pitch and only 6 of them due to illness and injury. We knew that we were going to have a tough match.

Chris warmed the boys up while parents stamped on the frosty pitch. Just before kick off we lost Oliver due to illness! With only 5 players we kicked off and started off strong. Ben scored an early goal and we were dominating the game.

All the boys got stuck in and there was some great passing and defending. Unfortunately we conceded 2 goals and Henry was then taken off injured!

Down to 4 players we had a Saughall sub as our goal keeper. George then scored a great goal but despite our efforts we conceded another goal.

We borrowed another Saughall player  to even the game up but despite an initial goal from our borrowed player we then conceded another 2 goals.

Despite the final score 5-3 we played well and at points dominated the game. We had some great passing especially between George and Ben. We saw some great tackling from Isaac and defending from Thomas. We almost saw a goal from Thomas as well.

Too hard to call man of the match as they all played really well despite the frosty conditions and ever depleting team! A big thank you to all parents who ended up as stand in coaches.

We were complimented by Saughall for carrying on with fixture against all the odds!

MATCH REPORT - SAT 26 NOVEMBER - MATCH 1

WAVERTON BEES 1 - 10 TARVIN WHITES

A very cold morning (-3°C on the school clock) saw a really brave performance from the Waverton team against a Tarvin side that was made up of some taller and older players. Overall the result was 10-1 in Tarvin’s favour.

The first ¼ was lost 3-0 but Rafa showed a great turn of pace and was only denied pulling one back for Waverton by the post after a 30yard run from inside his own half.

In the second ¼, despite losing 2-0 the passing from Waverton improved as the lads warmed up and one notable passage saw Oliver, George and Eric combine end to end to create a really great chance that Eric played just wide.

Oliver made half a dozen excellent saves throughout the first ½ - one really brave on the stroke of half time - and his distribution from goal kicks was greatly improved – always looking to pass the ball wide and away from the danger zone in the middle – his team mates taking up great positions to help him with that.

In the third ¼ the 2-0 scoreline to Tarvin was flattering as Waverton were the better team – beaten by 2 long range shots from Tarvin’s best player. A highlight in this half was Christopher’s run and shot that was kept out by their keeper.

In the final ¼ the cold really started to set in and both teams lost concentration. However, Waverton took the lead through George after he never gave up on a long ball from Eric through the middle – his efforts meant he was able to capitalise on a small slip from the Tarvin keeper and he finished really well.

Really good to see the boys listening to the coaches advice to dribble with the ball and shoot when they are closer to the goal to have a better chance of scoring. Christopher, Ellis and Rafa in particular ran well on the ball and as a result created great chances for the team. Tackling was improved across the pitch with notable challenges cutting out Tarvin’s attacking threat by Coby, Eric, Guy.

Great effort lads, and with the clock stating -1°C at the end, thanks to the well padded parents for their support as well.

MATCH REPORTS - SAT 19 NOVEMBER

BEES 1 - 8 UPTON YOUTH

BEES 1 - 8 PRINCES VILLA

Both teams came up against strong opponents this weekend...with exactly the same results!

MATCH 1

This saw Oliver, Christopher, Eric, George, Guy, Raphael, Frankie and Freddie take on a strong Upton team.

Losing 8-1 really hid the story that the team's performance improved through every quarter of the game, as the lads began to get familiar with each other.

A great effort from all the team, with highlights coming from Frankie's firm tackling, Eric's goal from distance, some great passing and link up play between Freddie and Rafael then George and Christopher. With close efforts following the goal from many of the team. When the lads used the space they really opened up the Upton defence. Oliver and Guy showed great all round ability with time in nets and outfield, both making great reaction saves.

A chilly morning and a tough result but the lads really worked hard throughout.

It's great that we now have the chance to field 2 Bee's teams that we can have players getting more match time with consistency in their team mates,  this should really help them develop their performances.

Thanks to the parents for all the support.

MATCH 2

Ben, Oliver, Henry, Thomas, Isaac, George and Samuel were really up against it this morning against the best Ellesmere Port's Princes Villa had to offer!

Our planning was slightly disrupted by some boys coming off their sick beds (thanks Samuel), injuries during the night to Yazan, our goalie being a no-show and George limping off after 10 minutes of his debut!

But after 5 minutes our boys were on top and were threatening the Villa goal. Our initial play was fast and dangerous and I think we shocked Princes Villa into action!

Princes Villa have a couple of talented players and were pretty robust in the tackle but in the main the lads competed hard and we never gave up. We conceded 7 of the goals in two quarters, when Villa fielded their strongest players. In the other two quarters the scores were 0-2 and 0-0 so we had good moments which we can build on.

Some of the goals came from errors that we can eradicate over time in training. Particularly turning away from or clearing the danger zone in front of our goal.

Highlights were a combative 10 minute debut from George, Ben's tackling and intent, Oliver's solid clearances and two great displays in goal from Isaac and Oliver. Henry almost got that goal!

MOTM goes to Ben who grabbed a nice goal and is definitely going in harder and winning more ball.

Thanks for great support from the lines.

TRAINING REPORT - SAT 12 NOVEMBER

Well done to all the boys who trained this morning. Graham, Nick, Chris and I were absolutely delighted by the effort, concentration and listening from all the boys.

The session really highlighted that as well as games we should train as a Group, with some match play drills and mini-games where the coaches can teach the boys what to do in different scenarios. The basics are now beginning to sink in.

The '1,2,3 game' where the boys had to compete to get the ball, tackle and dribble threw up some great contests. In this drill George showed a great turn of pace. In the mini matches Yazan did really well for his first Saturday session with some good skills and passing.

We talked to the boys afterwards and its becoming clearer to quite a few of them what is important at this early stage - competing hard, winning the ball, space, talking, passing where all things the lads came up with!

Well done boys...an enjoyable morning of football.

MATCH REPORT - SAT 2 NOVEMBER

BEES 1 - 14 NEWTON ATHLETIC

A hard game for the boys against another one team club in our league! Newton have just 9 registered u7s players compared to our 26 boys!

We started the game pretty well with some attacks going close, but after conceding the first Newton got a taste for the goals and we went into the second quarter down 0-3.

The second quarter was our best and it ended 0-2...0-5 down overall. Our tackling improved in this quarter and we saw much more of the ball.

The next two quarters we lost a bit of heart and concentration and Newton were able to run at us unchallenged, scoring some good goals. We did score a decent goal though as Ben tackled the Newton defender before running at goal to score...to the loudest cheer of the day from the Waverton supporters!!

We then followed this up with Ben hitting the post and Henry having his usual energetic "everything but scoring" game. When Henry eventually scores I'm sure it'll be a big celebration!

Newton bagged a few more but our boys never gave up and all were very tired but upbeat after the match.

Well done to the boys for a great effort against a good team.
